Many couples planning a wedding in Toronto are drawn to the timeless look of film photography. As Toronto wedding photographers, we love combining the reliability of modern digital cameras with the artistic character of 35mm analog film to create images that feel emotional, timeless and completely unique.
Today we are so proud and excited to officially offer 35mm analog film photography as an additional coverage option to wedding packages for our couples! Although this announcement feels a little strange for us. It seems like not so very long ago, while riding his bicycle around Iceland’s Ring Road, Norbert was concerned about his rapidly depleting stock of 35mm Velvia slide film.
With only 10 empty rolls left out of 35 total riding along in his bike’s pannier bag, he was at serious risk of running out of film before completing his 1,300 km bike trip around Iceland.

From Landscape Film Photography to Wedding Storytelling
Before digital camera sensors caught up to the quality of developed and scanned slide film, 35mm film was a common medium for capturing landscape photography. Landscape and travel were Norbert’s first love during his long and ongoing journey in photography.
Today’s full-frame mirrorless digital cameras are wonders of technology. They offer huge advantages when shooting weddings.
There’s no more worry about the quantity of film remaining — shoot as much as you like! No missed “first kisses” or “reaction shots” while the camera blasts away at 20 frames per second.
Thousands of images now fit on a single memory card and are instantly backed up as we shoot to a second card. Any camera setting changes are immediately visible in the viewfinder and on the screen, making proper exposure, colour balance, framing, and focus much easier to achieve.
Since the arrival of digital cameras, we’ve grown tremendously as photographers simply because we can review images instantly and learn from any mistakes on the spot. Images can be reviewed right away onsite. Then we bring home thousands of beautifully captured authentic moments and deliver hundreds of amazing photographs crafted, edited, and styled in Adobe Lightroom.
These images bring non-stop joy confetti to our couples as they relive each moment of their wedding day.

The Return of Analog Film
But before Lightroom there was the darkroom, and a very different way of working.
It was a slower, more deliberate process — shooting one frame out of 36 at a time. The results often varied and were rarely as technically perfect as what today’s modern cameras produce.
Yet it’s exactly this authentic imperfection that we find ourselves gravitating toward more and more.
It’s a creative flare and a different way of seeing a wedding day.
That motion-blur entrance.
An out-of-focus bride dashing down a staircase.
The unmistakable vintage colours that come from actually developing a specific brand of 35mm film.

Why Film Looks Different From Digital
You might think this “film look” can simply be recreated digitally as a preset after shooting.
We tried — and yes, it sort of can.
But something always seems missing when you try to recreate the look of film by editing a digital image.
After all, the image was still captured using a digital camera with much less intention, less thought, and without the tactile feedback that a true film camera provides.
All of this creates images that feel different, unique, and creatively vintage in a way that’s hard to replicate digitally.

Why Choose a Film Wedding Photographer in Toronto?
Film photography offers a very different way of capturing a wedding day. With only 36 frames on a roll, every photograph is taken with intention and care. This slower and more thoughtful approach often results in images that feel more artistic, emotional, and timeless.
Many couples are drawn to the unique look of film — the natural grain, the soft tones, and the beautifully imperfect character that simply cannot be fully recreated digitally. It’s this authenticity that has brought film photography back into appreciation in recent years.
For us, film photography also brings us back to where our journey with photography began. We remember buying rolls of film and rushing to develop them after shooting, excited to see what we captured and to learn from each frame.
That same sense of intention and anticipation is something we now love sharing with our couples — creating wedding photographs that feel nostalgic, timeless, and truly one of a kind.

Adding 35mm Film to Your Toronto Wedding Photography Package
No wonder we are so excited to share this joy with our couples!
You can now add two rolls of 36-exposure 35mm film coverage to any of our packages, provided your lead photographer is Norbert, Gosia, or Max.
We use timeless films such as:
-
Fujifilm Portra – known for vibrant colours and soft, beautiful skin tones
-
Kodak T-MAX – famous for high-contrast, punchy black-and-white images with smooth tonal gradation
You can choose which two rolls we shoot.
Want two rolls of colour? Perfect.
Two rolls of black and white? Also great.
Or one of each.
We also offer a third analog option — Polaroid film.
Remember the Polaroid? Us too.
Instead of 35mm film, you can choose to capture your analog wedding with three boxes of Polaroid film. This classic vintage format holds less detail and resolution, giving it that instant retro feel many couples love.

A Slower, More Intentional Wedding Photography Experience
To take full advantage of the analog process, we will need a little extra time with you throughout the day.
We will first capture moments digitally, and then take time to photograph with the 35mm film camera or Polaroid.
This additional space creates a wonderful opportunity for us to shoot more intentionally and deliberately, and for you as a couple to slow down, be present, and reconnect during what can often be a busy wedding day.

Your Analog Wedding Photography Keepsakes
After your wedding, you will receive a beautiful presentation box with your negatives and prints if you choose 35mm film — or your Polaroid prints if that option is selected.
All 35mm negatives will also be professionally scanned and uploaded to your gallery in a separate analog section.
This way you’ll enjoy both the tangible beauty of film and the convenience of digital sharing.
A Creative Blend of Digital and Film Wedding Photography
Although we shoot with and deeply appreciate the latest state-of-the-art digital camera gear, we are incredibly excited to also capture your wedding day using analog film photography.
For us, it’s a chance to slow down and see your wedding from a unique, creative, manual perspective — one single click at a time.
In many ways, it’s also a return to where our photography journey began.
